Reunion 1998

Last year’s Reunion was once more a great success. The highlight of the weekend perhaps being the inaugural cricket match against a St Michael’s village team. A highly competitive match took place on the legendary cricket field with the Old Boys XI just coming out on top in a tight match.

The village side batted first and made a respectable 123 in their allotted 30 overs. In reply after a shaky start in which the scores were subject to controversial readjustment mid-innings the Old Boys just managed to get home with the winning runs being hit in the last over.

Lunch was taken at the Fountain between innings and the Old Boys reply was fired on by more than orange juice!

After the cricket match there was the annual service in the Church which was well attended and this was followed by the AGM in the College Library.

The Dinner was attended by around 50 Old Boys and Friends. The guest speaker was the Rev'd Mike Vockins, Secretary of Worcestershire County Cricket Club who entertained us all admirably.

On the Sunday, a hardy band of golfers ascended the mountainous heights of Kington Golf Club to play out the annual SMC Golf Society Challenge. After some hours of battling against the elements on the highest course in England and Wales, Simon Banfield emerged from the clouds victorious.
