Music at St.Michael’s Church Oldwood Road Tenbury Wells
2006 Season Welcome to yet another year of Music at St.Michael’s - a reminder as to why this beautiful building and its attendant College came into being in the first place. Opened in 1856, the College was built to promote and revive Anglican Church Music under the guidance of its founder, Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley. That it succeeded, as many composers and organists of the last 150 years would testify, is without doubt. Unfortunately, it could not withstand the many social and economic pressures of the 1980’s and in 1985 the College closed.
St Michael’s Parish has been able to continue a programme of conservation repairs to the Church with the support of The Council for the Care of Churches, English Heritage, The Garfield Weston and Wolfson Foundations, The Historic Churches Preservation Trust, (National and Worcs & Dudley), The William and Jane Morris Fund and the Allchurches, Lesley David, Alan Evans Memorial, Idlewild and Manifold Trusts.
