St Michael and All Angels Oldwood Road Tenbury Wells

Music at St. Michael’s 2002

Welcome to another year and another Music at St. Michael’s programme- a reminder as to why this beautiful building and its attendant College came into being in the first place.

Opened in 1856, the College was built to promote and revive Anglican Church Music under the guidance of its founder, Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley. That it succeeded, as many composers and organists of the last 150 years would testify, is without doubt.

Unfortunately, it could not withstand the many social and economic pressures of the 1980’s and in 1985 the College closed.

Thanks to the support of English Heritage, The Historic Churches Preservation Trust and in particular, The Ouseley Trust and the St. Michael’s College Society, St. Michael’s has been able to continue as a Parish Church . With a strong supporting local community, we have been able to maintain some of its founder’s original wishes in our Choral Services and Organ Recitals.

Please join us whenever you can: you will be most welcome
